The NMDS-SC aims to benefit both the adult social care as a whole and individual social care employers. The information gathered provides a clearer picture of the size, structure and skills of the sector, informing government policy and funding. Equally importantly, the NMDS-SC aims to benefit social care employers, by enabling care providing establishments to keep an up to date online account of their workforce, allowing managers to identify future skills and competencies needed to deliver new and improved services.
It is clear to see from the NMDS-SC Briefings, that the robust workforce data collected from social care employers is already being used by key stakeholders, such as the Department of Health. By using the NMDS-SC data Skills for Care have estimated that up to 2.5 million social care workers will be needed by 2025, these forecasts also consider how the workforce may be structured. This forecasting recognises future social care demands and helps the Government and sector to plan to meet these future needs. Therefore the more up to date the information is the more accurate these important decisions will be.
To date 27,000 care-providing establishments have registered with the NMDS-SC, providing data on over 440,000 individual workers. These employers are benefiting from the numerous personal reports useful when workforce information is up to date. Skills for Care would like to thank all of these employers who have registered so far.
Care Learning has created tutorial videos to guide you through the various features of the NMDS-SC:
How to create an account:
Create your NMDS-SC account from scratch online (for those who have not done NMDS-SC before)
Go to www.nmds-sc-online.org.uk and click on ‘create an account'. Fill in the details requested, including an email address you can access easily.
Shortly you will receive an email acknowledging your application for an account, and soon after that another one which will tell you to go ahead and log in again with the username and password you set up. Click on the link in the email you were sent.
Log into NMDS-SC and enter your full establishment details. Once you have entered all the information click ‘finish' then ‘home' if necessary to return to the home page.
(Optional) Look at the menu on the left hand side and click on ‘users'. If you wish, you can add another person who will be able to update your NMDS-SC so that the task can be shared. This user can be deleted later if required.
Again on the menu, go to ‘my workers' and add your staff members' details individually (this does not have to be done all at once - you can go in and add more later).
Update the NMDS-SC whenever the profile of the establishment changes; a change in staff, qualifications, services offered, number of service users, etc. Remember, ideally the NMDS-SC should be a reflection of what is going on with your business at any given time.
