The National Skills Academy for Social Care is thrilled to announce the development of a new series of WorldSkills UK Social Care competitions, in partnership with UK Skills. The Skills Academy is committed to promoting excellence in skills training and development, and WorldSkills UK competitions have helped to lift standards of training and performance in a range of vocational sectors across the UK.

We are delighted to offer the opportunity to nominate up to two people within your organisation to compete at one of our three heats, which will take place in Leicester, Telford and St Helens from March-May 2010. Exceptional participants will be invited to a final competition to be held in London in June 2010.

Anyone working in the field of social care, and who has completed an appropriate level 2 and/or are working towards a level 3 qualification, will be eligible to enter the UK competitions.

Competitors who demonstrate excellence in caring will potentially have the chance to either win a medal at the UK final or, if they are under 23 at the time of the international competition and fully meet the eligibility criteria, to be considered for potential inclusion in a shortlist for the team that goes on to represent the UK at the next WorldSkills competition in London, 2011, or alternatively, in Leipzig Germany in 2013.

This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of raising the profile of, and championing excellence in social care both within the wider community and importantly for people working, or considering working in the field.

The closing date for entrants is Wednesday 17 February 2010.
