The issue of service provision for people with autism has gained a considerable amount of cross-party attention over the past few years.

The previous Government published its strategy for adults with autism in England, Fulfilling and rewarding lives, on 3 March 2010, and its first year delivery plan on 2 April 2010.

The 2009 Autism Act placed a statutory requirement on the Government to publish guidance by December 2010, which is expected to be consulted on this summer.

This Briefing summarises the key points of Fulfilling and rewarding lives and the first year delivery plan that accompanies it, focusing particularly on what it means for the NHS.
